Goal Setting 2014
It’s that time of year!! I’m seeing so many people post about New Year’s Resolutions and plans for 2014. Now that it’s officially 2014, it’s time to put all the thought and planning into action… how’s it going?
If your goals are fitness and/or nutrition related, click here on my post about getting started!
I highly recommend literally writing down a list of goals. Make a list and hang it where you’ll see it often, even everyday. Remind yourself regularly of the big picture, but if it’s a lot to take in or a little overwhelming here’s what I recommend. Break your big picture list into actionable items and goals that you can check off throughout the year, quarter, month, or even week. Listing a big picture goal of “losing weight” is great, but break that down. What do you need to make that possible and what are some actionable items that you can work on towards that big picture goal? Maybe you should go through your pantry and get rid of processed, high sugar, bad-for-you-food… maybe you need to join a gym… maybe you need to hire a nutritionist or personal trainer… however you decide to tackle your 2014 goals, give yourself benchmarks or smaller tasks you can check off in pursuit of the larger goal. You’ll feel more successful if you can see yourself making progress towards your big picture goals.
In 2013, I set the goal to compete in my first ever Figure Competition! It was such an amazing experience. I never, ever imagined that I would feel comfortable enough in a bikini on stage! In front of judges!!! Ahhhh!! It was amazing, though, and I highly recommend it. I believe it’s important to push yourself outside your comfort zone sometimes, doing things that scare you, make you nervous, or things that make you say “there’s no way I could do that.”
So when it came around to 2014, I had some big shoes to fill. Not that I have to top my fitness goals from last year, but I want to keep improving and keep getting better at being the best version of myself. That said, I took a bit of plunge and started this blog, a Facebook page, Instagram account, and Twitter all with the intention of inspiring others in their own fitness & health goals. Feedback and suggestions are much appreciated.
I hope the pursuit of your 2014 goals is off to a great start! Remember, sometimes breaking down big picture goals make them seem more manageable and more attainable. Good luck!
